Melbourne Bengals is located in Baxter, on the Mornington Peninsula about 50 minutes from Melbourne CBD. We made the decision to relocate to our new 17 acre property from inner city Melbourne to provide more space and a better lifestyle for our breeding cats. We specialise in breeding the exotic looking Bengal cat and the amazing Toyger cat.

Our Bengals are registered with the 'city cats' prefix. We are currently registered with the GCCFV (the Governing Cat Control Fancy of Victoria), TICA (The International Cat Association)and TIBCS (The International Bengal Cat Society).

Melbourne Bengals cats are regularly shown at cat shows across Australia. Melbourne Bengals Cats are bred for their beautiful temperament as well as their stunning leopard print markings. Our Kittens are well socialised with children and are treated as a member of our family.

About the Bengal Cat

The Bengal cat is an active, sweet-natured, gentle, intelligent, inquisitive and playful family pet.

The Bengal cat is a medium to large cat that is renowned for its short luxurious feeling pelt with distinctive leopard print markings. Bengal coats can also contain glitter that is an illustrious shimmer on each hair of the coat that can be more noticeable in certain lighting.

The Bengal cat is a 'man-made' (or hybrid) cat that derives its name and looks from its ancestor the Felis Bengalis, the Asian Leopard Cat. Bengal cats were created through purposeful breeding between the Asian Leopard cat and carefully chosen domestic cats. The goal in developing the domestic Bengal cat breed is to preserve the resemblance of the Asian Leopard Cat without the wild cat traits.

Although the Bengal cats appearance and genetic make-up is similar to the Asian Leopard cat, through selective breeding the temperament is purely that of a domestic cat. Bengal cats are rarely timid or reclusive and typically possess more of an outgoing and playful personality. Bengal cats are renowned for their playful nature and also their fearlessness around water. They often jump into the shower, or play with running water when given the opportunity.

Melbourne Bengals specialises in creating the brown and silver rosetted/spotted and marble Bengals. With our new additions into the breeding program, we may also have snow kittens available from time to time.
